do you remember?

December 13, 2011

the above is not my photo.  i wish it was. i actually wish it was a photo of me with one of my babies. but it’s not; it is a photo taken by my dear friend, steph [lifeography].  she facebooked the photo today, with the title — do you remember holding your babies this way?

the sad thing is…i don’t remember. well i do remember if i try really, really hard, but i want more. i want the photos, to remind me. i want the photos, to take me back to that magical place that i’ll never physically go to again. sadly, i don’t have that many photos from when sky and ryder were babies. especially photos that included me with them.

and sadly, i have NO video of my children or family. and THAT pains me so deeply. one of my goals for 2012 is to learn video AND to have my own family captured on video. i’m determined to capture my children more on video, even if it’s iphone video.  the absolute best camera is the one you have with you, right?!!

What a beautiful moment to have as a lasting reminder. Sadly, I also wish I had the photos and video to remind me. The challenge is getting my husband to capture those moments as it’s not always easy to set up the tripod to capture those fleeting moments and make them look genuine and not staged.

It’s a great goal to have and yes, the best camera IS the one you have on hand (the iPhone somehow is always at hand).

With my youngest still 3 I can remember. She still likes to be rocked at night as her long legs drape way down my lap I think of my baby girl who used to fit so perfectly on my chest. I can still feel it- go back to it. I hope I always remember that. I do wish I had more photos of those memories. I need to be in more photos with my children next year too.

geez , you, here we go again, i just posted this:: Wendy Graham Gibson: i hope so. “those” guys miss out on an awful lot. Make sure to have at least one camera w/video! :: on a dad friend’s fb about him going to his 1st kid christmas pagent. the next entry on my fb is THIS post. I’ve been sold on the video clip thing in a pocket camera since i miraculously captured my kiddo’s first 6 steps. We have scores of tapes that have never been seen, but the clips are magic and bring the memories flooding back. Great goal you great goal maker! Happy Holidays!

I remember going to a photographer many years ago with one of my babies … she “posed” me in the most uncomfortable position … had me hold my baby in the most awkward way … all I wanted was a photograph of me with my baby snuggled and fitting together the way we did every day at home. Each one of my babies had a different way to snuggled and I can’t remember how anymore … what I would give for a photograph of each one (3 boys)!

For once I can say that Yes I do have pics like these – with me in them :) Although more of me with my first than with the second kido :(
If you haven’t discovered this app already Deb – may I recommend the app 8mm for iphone. Its my most exciting find this year and its so easy to use. The other thing I’ve decided to try out is the old Super 8…but thats taking longer to gear up – in the meantime 8mm is rocking my world xx

I love that this is a real moment. As it could happen whether the photographer was there or not. Even better, the photographer was there. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. :)

Love your blog…
I’ve been doing a lot of videoing alongside my photographs lately, and I feel so grateful to have some of our family life moments captured forever… you will find video opens your eyes to whole new world… x.

You almost made me cry :(
The saddest thing is that we can’t fix it.
We may start capturing video, we may start taking more photos of us and our children. And it’s better than nothing, sure. But those days, when they were babies, are gone, and there’s no single video left…

My new year’s resolution is to participate in “embrace the camera” over on Emily Anderson’s blog. She posts a pic of herself with one of her kids each week, and invites others to participate too. My baby is 12 years old now… when I see the photo above, my heart aches … in a good and a bad way. Missing those moments when he was small enough to fit on my chest, but so amazed how much he’s changed and grown over the years. Here is a link to “embrace the camera” http://andersonfamilycrew.blogspot.com/2011/12/embrace-camera-dec-15th.html
