yes, it’s been over a year now that i’ve had my dreads. i can’t believe it. and i still absolutely love them. although i really wish they’d grow in length a bit. when down, they itch my neck like crazy. i’m actually beginning to think they may never grow. also, one thing i noticed, when looking at these photos is how much my ends have broken off (contributing to my length [or lack thereof] issue). i’m thinking that next year, i may not have any loose ends left.
so in celebrating one year of dreadlocks, i share some photos of this dreaded journey of mine. :-)) you can also read my previous dread posts here and here and here.
have any questions, feel free to ask and i’ll edit to add my answers at the bottom.

i know it looks a tad bit like a mug shot, but it gives you the 8 month dread idea. be sure to check out ryan’s work. he’s a brilliant film photographer.

oooh deb! i love how they have transformed
they were so wonderful and witchy, and now they’re sweet little deblocks.
love them.
i was thinking the other night about when i will get my own dreads (steven is so against me getting them.. i’m thinking that maybe when i’m a wee bit older? not sure..) anyway.. so much love for them. always wanted them. and they look so gorgeous on you.
you are so beautiful…

Your locks are beautiful! I love that they’re “Deblocks” that’s so awesome!
In terms of growth, just wait! When it happens (after maximum shrinkage), they take off! My dreadlocks are almost 4 (in December) and the tightest they shrank was chin length somewhere @ 2 years (mine were backcombed, and not tight to start). Now the longest locks hit my lower back! (I’m considering trimming them all to mid/ upper back length).
Happy journey, fellow dread-mama!
I love your dreads! And they suit you so perfectly. It’s hard for me to imagine you without them.
Ooooh, I love:)
Hot mama! I love dreads too, it was what first attracted me to my now husband…even though the dreads are long gone. I think they fit you perfectly!
you are so pretty
.
I love them!!! Your pictures make me want to get some of my own, my only problem is that my hair is barely to my shoulders….is it possible to still get dreads with hair that short?
you have found your style.
